Smart Holiday Storage Solutions!

December 26, 2017

The holidays have come and gone and chances are you have a lot of new stuff in your home! Pair that with all your holiday decorations that need to be packed away and you have a lot of things needing to be organized. Now is the perfect time to tackle the mess while simultaneously preparing for next year.

First things first, it’s time to think about your decorations. If you decorate for the holidays, you likely have lights, a tree, ornaments, garlands, and other knick-knacks to pack away. For those who celebrate Chanukah, a menorah, lights, and other decorations are likely in your home. Regardless of the celebration, using smart storage options can guarantee next year will be easy to set up and take down.

Ornament Storage

Christmas ornaments come in a range of materials from plastic to delicate blown glass. You can purchase sturdy crates or containers specifically designed for ornaments that can fold away for easy storage during the holidays. Having sectioned storage boxes are the smartest way to go as they make sure each ornament stands a real chance of surviving from year to year. Wrap fragile ornaments in tissue paper before placing them into the sections to add an extra layer of protection.

*Bonus tip: Wrap your ornament storage boxes in gift wrap and place them around the house or under the tree as additional decorations! When the holidays are over, you’ll easily be able to grab the boxes and start placing ornaments back into them.

Tree Storage

There is nothing like the smell of a real Christmas tree in your home. The price you pay for the delicious pine scent is often a mess. Pine needles are notoriously difficult to get out of carpet and even if you water your tree religiously, it will shed needles when taking it out.

Many homeowners prefer imitation Christmas trees due to the ease of use, storage, and the reduced mess that comes with a natural tree. When it is time to take the tree down, it can be challenging to shove the tree back into the cardboard box it came in for storage.

There is a better way! Christmas tree bags are handy, resilient, and much easier to store than a cardboard box. You can even get them with wheels to make it extra convenient and much easier on your back.

Toy Storage

The holidays are over and your kids have a bunch of new toys and not a ton of extra space to store them. What’s the best solution? Re-arrange! From adding a new toybox to finding a modular storage solution, there are plenty of off-the-shelf products you can use to further organize the toys in your home.

Put it on display

Some of your new gifts may be collectible or valuable, or just something you’re proud of and want to display. There are plenty of smart ways to incorporate these new items into your home. Bookcases make excellent display units. For a more custom look, floating or modular shelves allow you to decide how much space you need on each level while giving you a clean look. Glass display cases and china cabinets are a great way to display items you want to keep protected from dust, children or pets.

There are plenty of options available to you to make your holiday storage quick and easy. Spend a little time planning and then get out and look at your options in-store!
